Workplace Diversity: Embrace it and Celebrate it
Did you know that over 100 languages are spoken in many cities in North America? The time has come to prepare your workplace for cultural diversity. It has become a multi-cultural mosaic. Canada and the United States are the most culturally diverse nations on earth. We are becoming more of a “toss salad” than a “melting pot”.
As the multicultural population in North America explodes, companies and entrepreneurs often miss market penetration because of the failure to understand the target group's cultural values and customs.
Cultural and ethnic diversity is challenging the way we do business with multicultural communities.

I happen to go to a coffee shop every weekend and while sometimes, there are new options to try in the neighborhood, I keep on returning to the same one. It is not only that the coffee is great, but I am also impressed with the staff. They always have a smile on their face & greet their customers well, mostly they ask me if I’d like my regular – a iced americano or would try something new even before I place the order. And as a customer, a regular one at that, it makes me happy and wanting to come back.

Leadership has acquired interesting dimensions in this era of post-truth where public opinions are shaped more by subjective perceptions than by objective realities.
The Oxford dictionary defines post-truth as an adjective ‘relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief’.
In this brave new world the distinction between truth and falsehood often gets blurred; between black and white there are ample shades of gray.
Thus, we find leaders making assertions, which are not absolute truths, but too benign to be termed lies either. Brexit and the US elections 2016 are burning examples of alternative facts impacting the masses and shaping the future of nations.
- We suck at #compliance. Most of us can’t tell indirect taxes from direct ones and GST?
- #Employees take us for granted. We aren’t great paymasters and have no brand name. We are thus ever so gullible for a bunch of mother teresa rebirth’s who have sacrificed their social security to be with us.
- Our hottest social invitation is a conference with the word #investor in its tag line. This is our only gateway to heaven.
- We count our pennies. Every #expense is weighed against how many months will the residual last us.
