Democracy – this is a word – a word that most so-called modern humans take pride in – it’s a word of absolute glory for many and a word of defense for many more. It’s a word that people take refuge in, whenever they feel that their control over their life is threatened by the leader they have chosen to drive those very lives. It’s about giving the responsibility of your life to someone else, so that you can have a sense of security.
The truth however is not something so soothing as the perception of those citizens living under the false impression of democratic security and control. You heard me right – it’s a false impression of security and control. Democracy is a fallacy that harms the progress of a society beyond anybody’s wildest dreams. And the interesting part is, this harm takes place in a society without the citizens even being aware of it.
The fake shine of democracy blinds the people, making them feel proud of their political choices and decisions, while in reality, they might be making the greatest mistakes of their life, that may drag a whole nation backwards a few decades. I am aware that these statements of mine may make you feel either confused or perhaps even uncomfortable and offended, so let me elaborate with an excerpt from my paper entitled “On the Nature of Democracy”.
“Democracy is illogical at the moment, because the masses are not qualified to choose anything. If they are given the choice to elect either a lesser known scientist or a pop-star, who do you think the majority of them would elect? Isn’t it obvious? Now the real question is – is this kind of democracy, where the majority most proudly and happily choose glamour over wisdom, really a progressive system?”
India is a nation where the general public doesn’t give a damn about the mental capacity of a political candidate – all they need to see is whether that candidate is charming and famous. They are charmed by the magic tricks of pompous and uncivilized babas and swamis, and then when they find out that they have been tricked, they start protesting, and after a few weeks, again they fall prey to some other swamis and babas. They love magic more than science, they love charm more than character, they love prejudices more than reasoning, that’s the reason, why India is not “Sare Jahan se Achha” (better than all other nations).
India is a nation where swamis get more attention than scientists – prasad is taken more seriously than medicine – satsang gets more visitors than therapy. And still it doesn’t bother the citizens the slightest bit to take pride in their nation as some great land. I agree India was at some point of time in history a great nation with great characters – she gave birth to some of the greatest minds in science and philosophy. But that’s long gone history. The fact of today is, brilliant minds prefer to go abroad and live there, not because they love other countries more than their native land, but because the other countries have developed the capacity to recognize brilliance, whereas in India brilliance and genius are mere words of temporary gossip, and nothing more.
Most Indians are obsessed with ceremonials and worship, without giving a single thought to the actual practical progress of their society. As I said in my book “Prescription: Treating India’s Soul” – “The overload of useless ceremonials and worship has crippled the whole nation. If you want to do good to your nation and yourself, then throw away your ancient ceremonials as far as possible.” A little bit of ceremonials are healthy, when done in groups, as it promotes mental stability, but so can group discussion, group meditation or any kind of group activity. Ceremonials as they are practised today to a ridiculously high intensity and frequency, by the so-called modern Indians, only make them more blind towards their prejudices and superstitions. That’s why reasoning only makes them furious never to break free from the hypnotism of mysticism.
Remember, until the citizens of a nation are awakened with the force of reasoning and self-reliance, no democracy can do good to them. They must wake up from the deep sleep of ancient mysticism, then and then only will they be able to actually see with the eyes of their mind, what’s truly good, healthy and right for the progress of their nation.
